Back at the House |
|||||
| After the beach, we drove back to
Algeciras and met up with the immediate
family, and our closest friends, including Javier and Nuria and their son
Nicolas, who couldn´t make it to the ceremony. Paqui and her broken foot were installed on the couch.

| Then came the food! Because we met in
"Galicia", the region of Santiago, we wanted a
traditional "Gallego" meal, which is quite different than the food of the
south. Rogelio´s Dad is Gallego and was really pleased to share a
traditional feast.
|
We ate, "Pulpo a la Gallega", which is chunks of boiled octopus with salt and paprika. And one of my favorite Spanish foods, "Pimientos de Padron", which are bite-sized green peppers fried with lots of salt. But the fun part is that some of them are sweet and some really spicy, but you never know until it is too late. And "Empanada de Atún", which is a pastry filled with tuna |
Then we had "Caldo Gallego", which is basically turnip-green soup, with big chunks of beef, sausage, pork fat, and potatos swimming around in it. First you eat the liquid like a soup, then you eat all the meat and potatos. And as always in Spain, there were tons of plates of cured ham, cheese, olives, bread. And of course, two different wines, a white Albariño from Galicia, and a red from Rioja. |

| But it wouldn´t have been complete without something Canadian. I made butter tarts, brownies, oatmeal cookies and lemon squares, all considered very strange and exotic. | |||||

|||||
| During the ceremony, The Justice of the Peace read an excerpt from "The
Prophet" by Khalil Gibran. Since amazing
circumstances always seem to happen to us, it was the exact excerpt
that I had written the book I gave Rogelio for a wedding present.
|
Ricardo read it again after dinner and there wasn´t a dry eye in the house. | ||||
| Rogelio´s brother and sister are both music teachers, and the friends all play guitars and bang on drums. So we made a bunch of noise and danced around the living room | |||||
